When you use a POS (Point of Sale) machine, such as those offered by Hypercom, you provide your customers with additional payment options. Instead of paying with cash only, the customer can also pay with a credit card or debit card. Needless to say, when there is a problem with a cash transaction, you can simply go into your cash register and give the customer a cash refund. However, for a purchase that was made using the Hypercom credit card machine, a different method must be used to issue a refund.
Power on your Hypercom credit card machine.
Wait for the screen to display the words “Touch Here For Menu.” Press the menu option at the top of the screen.
Select the “New Trans” option to start a new transaction.
Press “Credit” if you are crediting the refund back to a customer's credit card. Press “Debit” if you are crediting the refund back to a customer's debit card. If you are unsure of which option you should select, ask the customer which type of card he is using.
Swipe the customer's card through the magnetic card reader. You will see an “Amount” prompt.
Enter the amount of the refund that is to be credited back to the customer's card. If the customer is using a debit card, she will have to enter her PIN number for the card. If she is using a credit card, no PIN is needed.
Wait for the screen to display the words “Transaction Accepted.” When you see those words, it means that the refund process has been successful.
