1
Determine what type of candy you make best. Become known as the person who specializes in a certain type of candy such as coconut or lemon candy. If you make a variety of candies well, choose one or two on which to focus. Remember, you can increase the types of candy you offer later as your business grows.

2
Figure out the cost of your required ingredients. Understand you have to keep your costs low to make enough money to stay in business. Be sure that the price at which you sell your candy is more than the cost it takes to buy your ingredients and run your business. You will need to spend money on items such as sugar, wrapping paper, molds, thermometers, citric acid and candy sticks. Be prepared for a visit from an inspector from the Department of Health. They will make sure you meet all of the requirements for obtaining the appropriate license in your area. Contact the Department of Health in your area to determine how to meet the license requirements.

Give your candy a beautiful appearance. Place different types of wrappers on your candy to make it look more appealing to your customers. For example, you can wrap the candy in plastic, place your candy in nicely decorated bags or even make sure the candy and wrapper are the same color.

4
Market your business to your customers. Create fliers at a local office-supply store. Include various methods for your customers to contact you such as via e-mail and telephone. Place the fliers at stores in your local area and on bulletin boards in supermarkets and hand them out at parks where parents and children are present.

5
Sell your candy at various locations. Attend events in your community like flea markets or swap meets where vendors sell different items. Rent a booth and sell candy at the flea market. You can also have someone create a website for you through which your customers can place their order.
