How to Fix a Bar Oiler on a Stihl Chainsaw
The bar and chain on a Stihl chainsaw are lubricated by an automatic oiler, which is regulated by the oil pump. Through normal wear and tear the oiler, delivery hose and pump can get clogged with old oil if not cleaned regularly. The oiler hole on the chainsaw's bar can also get clogged with compacted sawdust and oil, which will block lubrication After every couple of uses it is recommended to check this hole. To fix or replace the bar oiler you need to remove the oil pump. Does this Spark an idea?

Before Removing the Pump
-
1
Loosen the bar tensioner screw. Take off the bar nuts with the wrench. Remove the bar cover, bar and chain.
-
2
Unscrew the oiler's cover plate that's located beside the two metal bar posts. Remove the cover plate and insert the sharp edge into the bar's guide slots. Scrape the thin cracks clean of any compacted sawdust and old oil.

3
Check the oiler hole on the bar. This pea-sized hole is on the rear of the bar, near where it connects to the guide posts. Clean this out.

4
Check the bar's nose sprocket. Spin it with a gloved hand. If it doesn't spin freely lubricate the nose sprocket with engine lubrication. Insert the lubrication gun into the hole near the sprocket's tip. Pump the gun one to two times.
