How to Get a Hotmail Account Without Giving Credit Card Information thumbnail
You don't have to disclose your credit card information to sign up for a basic Hotmail account.

Hotmail has a free, basic account and also offers an upgraded account called Hotmail Plus, which requires a paid subscription. If you opt for Hotmail Plus, you will be asked for your credit card information. However, signing up for a basic email account with Hotmail doesn't require any payment information, so no credit card is needed. To get a basic Hotmail account, you must create a Windows Live ID, which you can also use on MSN Messenger, MSN Music and Xbox LIVE.

Instructions

    • 1

Visit the Hotmail website, and click on the "Sign up" button next to "Don't have a Hotmail account?" (see Resources section for link.) This takes you to the "Create your Windows Live ID" screen.

    • 2

Enter the email address you would like to use in the "Windows Live ID" field. The end of your email address will be @hotmail.com. Click on the "Check availability" button to see if that address is available. If someone else has already taken it, you can use one of the suggestions that Windows Live offers or try different addresses until you find one that is available.

    • 3

Enter a password in the "Create a password" field. Re-enter the password in the field underneath it.

    • 4

Enter an alternate email address. This is an optional step, and is used in the event that you forget the password for your new Hotmail account. If you prefer not to enter an alternate email address, you must choose a security question and answer.

    • 5

Enter your personal information, including your first name, last name, country, state, zip code, gender and birth year.

    • 6

Type in the eight characters under the "Birth year" field in the "Characters" field. This is to make sure that you are a human and not a computer program.

    • 7

Click on the "I accept" button, and you will be taken directly to your Hotmail inbox.
