How to Make Christmas Presents From Fabric Scraps

How to Make Christmas Presents From Fabric Scraps thumbnail
Making Christmas presents is economical and fun.

The holidays can place a financial burden on many families. The more people you have to buy Christmas presents for, the more strain it can be. Instead of allowing financial stress to make your holidays less enjoyable, avoid it by using leftover fabric scraps to create cherished presents that will make your family and friends feel appreciated. You can find everything you need to transform your fabric scraps into treasured holiday keepsakes at any fabric or craft supply store.

Instructions

    • 1

Make Christmas sachets for drawers and closets. Cut a scrap of cloth into a rectangular shape. Fold the cloth in half with the printed side facing in. Starting at the fold, sew both sides of the rectangle closed with a chain stitch using a needle and thread. Turn the rectangle inside out so that the pattern is now on the outside. Fill the sachet with buckwheat hulls. Drop in 10 drops of essential oil. Sew the open end of the sachet closed with the chain stitch.

Make a patchwork pillow. Sew together different pieces of cloth using the chain stitch until you have created a large sheet of patchwork. Turn the patchwork sheet so that the patterned sides are on the inside. Sew around the entire perimeter of the pillow with the chain stitch, leaving around 2 inches un-sewn. Turn the pillow inside out, so that the patterns are facing out. Push cotton batting inside the 2-inch opening with your fingers. Fold the edges of the opened end inward and stitch it closed.

Make fabric Christmas ornaments. Place two pieces of fabric together with the patterned sides out. Cut a shape from the scraps, such as a triangle, star, or circle. Place a small amount of cotton batting in between the two pieces of fabric. Thread a needle with embroidery thread and stitch around the perimeter of the shape. Double over a piece of ribbon and sew the ends to the ornament so that it can be hung on a tree.
