Homemade Shampoo for Steam Carpet Cleaners

Keep your carpet clean by making your own homemade shampoo for a steam carpet cleaner.

Instead of purchasing a commercial shampoo for a steam cleaner, you can make your own at home with inexpensive ingredients. Carpet needs to be cleaned with a shampoo cleaner to effectively remove dirt and debris. Commercial carpet cleaners contain harmful chemicals, and they are not good for the environment.

Things You'll Need

• 1 gallon warm water
• 1 gallon bucket
• 1/3 cup white vinegar
• 1/4 cup liquid dish soap
• 3 1/2 cups water
• 1/3 cup soap flakes
• 6 drops essential oil
• 2 tsp. washing soda

Vinegar and Soap Carpet Cleaner

1. Pour 1 gallon of warm water into a gallon-sized bucket.

2. Add 1/3 cup of white vinegar and 1/4 cup of liquid dish soap. Stir to blend the vinegar and soap with the water.

3. Pour the mixture into the shampoo reservoir.

Scented Carpet Cleaner

1. Pour 3 1/2 cups of water into a saucepan. Place the pan on the stove top over medium-high heat and bring it to a boil.

2. Add 1/3 cup of soap flakes to the boiling water. Stir until the flakes dissolve.

3. Allow the water to cool to room temperature.

4. Add 6 drops of your preferred essential oil. Add 2 tsp. of washing soda and stir to dissolve both.

5. Pour the cleaning solution into the shampoo reservoir.
