How to Replace Windows XP Boot Screens

How to Replace Windows XP Boot Screens thumbnail
The boot screen is the screen that flashes as your computer boots up.

When you turn on a computer that is running the Windows XP operating system, you will first see the BIOS screen and then the Windows XP boot screen. While you cannot replace the BIOS screen, you have two options to replace the Windows XP boot screen. You can use a program included with the Windows XP operating system to skip over the boot screen or a freeware program to customize it.

Instructions

  1. Boot.ini

    • 1

Click on the "Start" menu and then click on the "Run" box.

    • 2

Type "msconfig" into the Run box and click "OK." The System Configuration window opens.

    • 3

      Click on the "Boot.ini" tab.

    • 4

Check the box next to "/NOGUIBOOT" and then click "OK."

    • 5

Restart your computer. You will notice that your computer now goes from the BIOS screen to the Windows operating system, skipping over the usual Windows XP boot-up screen.

    BootSkin

    • 6

Go to the BootSkin homepage (see Resources). Download, then open the BootSkin file.

    • 7

Follow the program prompts to select the image you want to use to replace the default Windows XP boot screen image and then click "Apply."

    • 8

Restart your computer. Your boot screen will be replaced with the image you selected.
