Instructions

    • 1

Select a variety of photographs, cards or pieces of memorabilia to display on the scrapbook pages. It is helpful to select pieces that are centered around a specific event--such as senior prom, awards banquets or sporting activities--that will be displayed together on the various pages. Select between five and seven pieces of memorabilia to display per two-page layout.

    • 2

Place two scrapbook pages on a flat work surface so that they are positioned in the same fashion as if they were in the finished book.

    • 3

Select two or three of the desired pieces of memorabilia and mat them using scrapbooking paper. When purchasing scrapbook papers, consider purchasing papers that are designed specifically around the graduation theme. Using either glue dots or double sided tape, adhere the memorabilia to the paper and then trim the scrapbook paper by 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch with decorative scissors or a paper trimmer of choice so that a border is visible on all sides of the memorabilia. One way to maintain the graduation theme throughout the scrapbook as well as to provide a uniform appearance is to color coordinate your scrapbook papers with the graduate's school colors. Another option is to double or triple mat the memorabilia with all of the graduate's school colors using solid colored cardstock.

    • 4

Arrange the selected memorabilia, both the matted as well as the unmatted pieces, on the two opposing scrapbook pages. Once a desired layout is achieved, adhere the selected pieces to the scrapbook page with either glue dots or double-sided tape. One layout to consider is to place a matted 5 x 7 senior portrait at the center of the scrapbook page and to then layer the senior's additional wallet size portraits around the outsides of the page. Another option is to mat and center a senior class photo and then have the graduating students autograph the page. Consider creating a collage of the various graduation cards to display in the scrapbook as well.

    • 5

Record important information about the various photographs and memorabilia on the scrapbook pages using acid free pens and markers. Add information such as the names of individuals in the photographs, dates and descriptions of important events such as proms, homecomings, awards banquets and sporting events, as well as memories about the events to both clarify the various pieces of memorabilia added and to personalize the album. Journal the information close to the item that it pertains to on the scrapbook page. Consider adding famous quotes and poetry on the scrapbook pages. Inspirational quotes and poems make nice additions to the graduation-themed scrapbook.

    • 6

Adhere additional embellishments and decorations to the scrapbook page as desired to create a finished look. Be sure to use acid and lignin free embellishments. Embellishments that may be added include various paper ribbons, buttons, and graduation stickers, etc. Consider adding a piece of material from the graduate's gown or cords from the cap tassel to the album to personalize the scrapbook. Another graduation decoration that can be added would be graduation confetti that is available for purchase at a variety of scrapbook stores.

Place the scrapbook pages in the album according to album specifications.

Tips & Warnings

  • Plastic page protectors are available for use with various scrapbooks if desired. This product will help prevent dirt and debris from ruining your finished pages.

  • Specialty scrapbook stores are perfect places to find all of your scrapbooking needs and sometimes offer additional advice on tools and techniques for the latest trends.

  • If using Polaroid photographs be sure not to trim them as this will ruin the photographs.

  • When purchasing scrapbook materials, be sure to purchase only materials that are acid and lignin free. Materials that contain either acid or lignin will lead to the deterioration of your photographs and other pieces of memorabilia.
