Children can leave crayons in their pockets after coloring or engaging in art projects. Accidentally forgetting to remove crayons from clothes pockets before laundering can cause a colorful mess in a dryer. Since crayons consist mainly of wax, the heat from the dryer can cause the wax to melt and leave waxy stains on the dryer drum, as well as on the clothes. Does this Spark an idea?

  • 3 soft cloths
  • Household lubricant spray
  • Liquid dish soap
  • Rags

Instructions

    • 1

      Spray a soft cloth with a household lubricant spray. Wipe the dryer drum with the cloth, focusing especially on the crayon stains.

      Pour a couple drops of liquid dish soap onto another soft cloth. Dampen the cloth with water until suds form.

      Rub the crayon stains with the damp cloth until the stains are removed. Wet another soft cloth with water, and then wipe down the dryer drum to rinse away the soap.

      Run a load of rags through the dryer on a normal drying cycle. Once the cycle is complete, inspect the dryer to ensure the crayon stains are completely removed. If stains remain, repeat the entire process.
