Playful, loving and intelligent, boxer puppies are quite popular among pet owners. With their goofy personalities and easy-going natures, it's often easy to see why. While adopting adult boxers is the option of choice for some dog owners, adopting boxer puppies is the way to go for others; however, this can be a daunting task if you don't know where to go or look. Fortunately, there are a few ways in which to find the perfect boxer puppy for you.

Contact your local boxer rescue. Call your veterinarian or look in the phone book to find a boxer rescue near you. Not all rescues will have puppies; however, there is a chance a pregnant boxer will be adopted by the rescue or a puppy mill will be raided and the boxers will go to the rescue. Because boxers are a popular breed, it is very likely you will have at least one boxer rescue in your state, if not more.

Visit your local animal shelter to search for boxer puppies. Again, it may be difficult to find boxer puppies at a shelter; however, there is a chance. A boxer that has just given birth may have been surrendered because it was too much for the previous owner to handle. In addition, a stray boxer that just had babies could be found and given to the shelter. Visit your area's animal control or other shelters to search for boxer puppies.

Contact a boxer breeder. A breeder is likely your best chance at securing a boxer puppy. Breeders almost always have puppies on hand; however, be sure to inspect the environment in which the animals are kept, and take a look at the boxer's parents, if possible. Just because the puppies come from a breeder doesn't always mean they are in good health or the breeder is practicing ethical breeding. In addition, ask the breeder if you can contact former customers for their input on their boxer and the breeder. Ask your veterinarian for suggestions on boxer breeders. Avoid any breeder that doesn't allow home inspection or former client testimonials.

Boxer puppies are great to have, but adults are usually even better. Adopt an adult boxer along with the puppy to give your pooch a companion. Adult boxers often help the youngsters learn certain behaviors and typically come with more training.
