Plan a schedule with a monthly calendar.

The Board for Professional Organizing and the National Organization of Professional Organizers note that the field of professional organizing is growing. Increasing numbers of people are turning to organizers for assistance in structuring their professional and personal lives. Professional organizers often start working with a client by advising her to list tasks so she can see, at a glance, what needs to be done. Setting up a calendar to list the tasks will help you to prioritize the items on your "to-do" list and plan out your schedule.

Instructions

  1. Use a Google Calendar

    • 1

Open a Google account by inserting contact and personal information into the proper fields of the Gmail sign-up site. Choose a password. Type in the requested security letters for verification. Authorize the agreement with Google that spells out its terms of service. Provide a cell phone number in the appropriate field. Receive Google's text code on the cell phone and submit it into the code verification field. Open the new Google user account.

    • 2

Submit the username and password into the open fields of the Gmail homepage and click on "Calendar" (upper left corner). Watch for the "Get started with Google Calendar" window and click "Continue" when it appears.

    • 3

Open the Google Calendar. Click on "Settings" and then "Calendar." Click on "Create New Calendar." Give the calendar a name. Click "Create Calendar" at the bottom of the page.

    • 4

Enter tasks that relate to the calendar's name on the appropriate date. A "Work Tasks" calendar, for example, would include your work to-do list.

    • 5

Create a second calendar by clicking on "Settings," "Calendar," "Create New Calendar" and giving the second calendar a name. Click "Create Calendar" at the bottom of the page.

    • 6

Enter the duties that relate to that calendar's name. If, for example, the calendar has the name "Dinner Menus," insert menu plans.

    • 7

Click on "Create Event" to insert entries once a second calendar exists. Edit the entry by choosing in which calendar to place the entry (Work Tasks or Dinner Menus). Each calendar will have its own color. When the calendar manager looks at her calendar, she will see each entry's subject noted by its color.

    • 8

Click on "Month" to view all the entries for the month. Create as many calendars as needed within Google Calendar.

    Use Calendar Pad Calendar

    • 9

Download the Calendar Pad monthly calendar into the computer's hard drive. Click "Download" and choose the folder in which to save the Calendar Pad file.

Choose a style for the Calendar Pad calendar.

    • 11

Add events, activities and appointments to each day of the month by clicking on the day of the month and then clicking on "Add" on the calendar's toolbar. Fill in the requested information in the form, including date, time, place, URL link (if appropriate) and details of the event. Note whether the event repeats daily, weekly or monthly.

    • 12

Publish the Calendar Pad calendar to a personal website to allow others to view it, if desired.

    CoffeeCup Web Calendar

    • 13

Download the CoffeeCup Web Calendar to the computer's hard drive.

    • 14

Click on the selected date for adding an event, appointment or activity and click "Add an Event." Include all relevant event information. The program allows you to bold the text, add URLs and add graphics to illustrate the event.

    • 15

Click on "Customize" to customize the calendar. Change the calendar's size, change the date format (American or European), choose colors and highlight holidays and default days (weekly, monthly or yearly dates when special events occur).

    • 16
