How to Clean the Burned Popcorn Smell in a Microwave

Anyone who has overcooked a bag of microwave popcorn knows of the unpleasant burnt popcorn smell that wafts through an entire room. Even when you think that the smell in your microwave has dissipated, you quickly learn that the smell is still present when you cook something in the microwave a few days later and still smell burnt popcorn. To get rid of the smell, you want to use a chemical-free cleaning solution since you are constantly cooking edible foods in the microwave.

Things You'll Need

• Bowl
• Baking soda
• Water
• Cleaning rag

Instructions

1. Pour 1 cup water and 2 tbsp. baking soda into a microwave-safe bowl.

2. Place the bowl into the center of your microwave tray, and cook on high for 2 minutes. The baking soda is a natural odor absorbent, and the steam from the water will also loosen the residue on the walls of the microwave.

3. Moisten a cloth with hot water, wring it out, and wipe it over the interior walls of the microwave.

4. Leave the microwave door open until the walls have fully dried, then close the microwave.
