Use the Export Contacts feature in Google Contacts to export your entire list of Gmail contacts, a group of your contacts or an individual contact. The feature converts your list of contacts into the comma-separated values(CSV) or vCard format for import into a compatible email account, email client program or personal information management program. As of publication, you need to revert to the old version of Google Contacts to access the Export Contacts feature.
Click Gmail at the upper-left corner of the page after signing in to your Gmail account. Select Contacts from the menu to open the Contacts page.
Click More on the page's left side and select Export from the drop-down list.
Click Go to Old Contacts on the pop-up dialog box to open the older version of Google Contacts.
Click the More button above your list of contacts and then select Export from the menu to open the Export Contacts dialog box.
Click the All Contacts radio button in the Which Contacts Do You Want to Export section to select all of your contacts for export. To select a specific group of your contacts -- such as business contacts -- select The Group radio button, click the drop-down box and then choose the group.
Click the radio button next to the format that you want to use to export your contacts in the Which Export Format section. Select the Google CSV format to transfer your contacts to another Google account. If you want to import your contacts into Microsoft Outlook, another compatible program or an email account -- such as Yahoo -- choose the Outlook CSV format. Select the vCard format to export your contacts for use in the Apple Address Book program.
Click the Export button, browse to the location where you want to save your contacts file and then save the file.
Open the Contacts page by clicking Gmail at the upper-left corner of your dashboard and then selecting Contacts.
Select More from the list on the Contact page's left side and then click Leave the Contacts Preview to open the previous version of the Contacts page.
Click the check box next to the contact you want to export.
Select the More button at the top of the page and then click Export from the menu to open the Export Contacts dialog box.
Choose the export format you want to use in the Which Export Format section. For example, to export your contact as a vCard -- which can be imported into the Apple Address Book program -- select the vCard Format radio button.
Select the Google CSV Format radio button to export the contact to another Google account. Click the Outlook CSV Format radio button to export the contact for use in another email account, Microsoft Outlook or another applicable program.
Click the Export button, go to the location where you want to save the contact and then save the file.
Tips & Warnings
- If you want to import contacts to your account, you need to first convert the list of contacts to the CSV file format and then use the Google Contacts Import feature to import the file.
- Similar to other files, you can email your contacts file by attaching it to an email message.
- Each major Web browser uses a different process to download files. One browser may use a dialog window to facilitate the download process, while another browser may use a notification bar to help you download the contacts file.
- If you did not choose the Downloads folder in Windows 8.1 to save your contacts file, make a note of the location so that you can find it when you are ready to import your contacts.
