How to Change Boot Drive Letter

With any Windows operating system, your hard drives are assigned letters representing each drive. Your boot drive is the hard drive that contains your operating system. The most common letter representing your boot drive is “C.” Windows contains built-in functionality to allow you to change the letter of your boot drive. Changing the letter of your boot drive will take about 10 minutes.

Instructions

1. Click on the “Start” button and select “Control Panel.”

2. Click on the “Performance and Maintenance” icon and click on “Administrative tools.”

3. Double-click on the “Disk Management” option and right-click your boot drive.

4. Click on the option labeled “Change Drive Letter and Paths” and click “Change.”

5. Click “Assign the following drive letter” and enter the letter you would like to correspond with your boot drive.

6. Click on “OK” and click “Yes” to confirm the drive letter change.
