How to Open the Lid Top on My Kenmore Washer

Opening the top lid on the Kenmore washer is a fairly simple job that can be done in less than thirty minutes. Occasionally, you will need to open the top lid in order to access the interior of the appliance for maintenance or to replace a part like the motor, water pump or even a worn-out belt. Most Kenmore washers have similar designs in the cabinetry and can be opened by removing just a couple of parts. You can open the top lid of the Kenmore washer and save the time and expense of having a repairman do the work for you.

Instructions

1. Unplug the electrical cord of the Kenmore washing machine from the electrical outlet before attempting to open the top lid.

2. Unfasten the end caps on the control console by pushing in on the center of the caps and pulling out to the side to remove them by hand.

3. Locate the screws on the front of the control console and remove them with a screwdriver, setting the screws out of the way.

4. Flip the control console back so that it is resting on the rear hinges and unplug the lid switch from the top lid, pulling it straight up by hand.

5. Locate the metal clips that sit under the control console on the rear of the top lid and pry the clips up with a screwdriver, removing them from the lid.

6. Pull the top lid cover off the Kenmore washer cabinet and set it out of the way.

• Always unplug the electrical cord of the Kenmore washer from the power source before attempting to open the top lid.
