How to Make My Website Searchable on the Internet

You will want your website to be listed on the major search engines if you are launching a brand new website or you have an established website that you want to receive more traffic. Search engine use bots called “crawlers” to make paths across the Internet in search of new Web pages that have not been previously indexed. However, if your site is not showing up in any of the search engines, you can manually submit your website to be considered the next time the search engine does a Web crawl. This does not ensure that your website will appear in the search engine, but submitting it will give your website a better chance of being indexed.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to the submission page for large online search engines such as Google, Yahoo! and Bing.

    • 2

Type the domain of your website in the URL text box. You do not need to type each individual Web page under that domain. The search engine crawler will go to your domain and do a full crawl of your website after you have submitted it. Search engines will also index new pages and remove old pages automatically once you have submitted your domain.

    • 3

Fill out the CAPTCHA text box, if required, and respond to any other prompts on the search engine’s submit form.

    • 4

Click the “Add URL” or “Submit URL” button to send your URL to the search engine crawler.

    • 5

Allow the search engine time to crawl and index your website. The time it will take to index your website may vary. Sometimes you may find some of your pages indexed quickly while the rest may take a while to show up.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you have waited a month and still cannot find your website in the search engines, you can attempt to resubmit your website again.
