1
Clean the sheet of glass or acrylic with glass cleaner and dry completely.
-
2
Place the sheet of acrylic or glass on top of your stained glass pattern. Free stained glass patterns are available to print from online sources, or you can use an outline from a page in a coloring book.

3
Trace the outline of the stained glass design pattern onto the glass with liquid leading. Liquid leading is available in the stained glass paint aisle of the craft store. Application is simple; hold the bottle as if it were a pencil and squeeze the leading directly onto the glass through the applicator tip. The leading is thick and requires a bit of strength to press from the container. Allow the leading to dry according to the package instructions, typically 24 hours.
-
4
Fill in the glass between the liquid leading outlines with the desired color of stained glass paint. Apply the stained glass paint the same way as you did the liquid leading; hold the bottle upside down at an angle with the applicator tip touching or close to the glass sheet. Squeeze the paint onto the glass.
-
5
Comb each section of paint with a stained glass paint comb. Do not wait until the entire project is complete before combing. The comb smoothes the paint within the lead lines. Make sure that the paint does not exceed the top of the lines. The comb also helps to remove any air bubbles that often appear in direct bottle-to-surface paint applications. The more air bubbles you remove, the more your faux stained glass design will resemble the real thing.
-
6
Let the paint dry completely. Stand the faux stained glass panel in a window or anywhere light can shine through the translucent paint colors.
