1
Turn one sock inside out. Center and flatten the heel on the front side of the sock. Draw a straight line 1 inch from the heel down the length of the center of the leg section of the sock. Pin the sides of the sock to hold them steady as you sew; remove the pins as you go.
-
2
Stitch a straight seam along each side of the marked line, 1 inch from the heel to the edge of the cuff. Cut the line between the two seams to make the two legs of your sock monkey. There should be an opening between the two legs, just beneath the sock's heel. The heel is actually the monkey's bum; the portion of the sock above the heel is the monkey's torso.

3
Turn the sock inside out through the opening beneath the heel. A knitting needle is helpful when turning the thin leg sections inside out.
-
4
Stuff the legs and the torso with polyester fiber filling. Stitch the opening beneath the heel together after stuffing the sock monkey.
-
5
Turn the second sock inside out. Flatten the sock in profile, with the heel to one side. Draw a line from the toe to the cuff, 1 inch from the side edge of the sock. Stitch the line from the toe to the cuff.
-
6
Cut the sock on the other side of the seam from the toe to the cuff. Cut off the toe section and discard it. This strip is the monkey's tail. Turn it right-side out and stuff it as you did the torso and legs. Stitch each end together to enclose the stuffing.
-
7
Cut the remaining section of sock into three pieces; the heel, the foot and the leg. The leg section will become the monkey's arms, the heel is his face and the small foot section is his ears.
-
8
Pin the open side of the leg section together. Draw a straight line down the center of the leg portion. Stitch on each side of the line. Cut between the stitches. Turn each section inside out and stuff them. Stitch the ends together. Stitch the two arms to each side of the monkey's torso.
-
9
Flatten the small foot section of sock. Draw two ear shapes onto one side of the rectangle. Cut out the shapes. Sew around three sides. Turn the ears inside out and stuff them. Stitch the remaining side together. Stitch the ears in place at the end of the monkey's torso.
-
10
Turn the heel section inside out. Stitch the back side of the heel section of the sock onto the top of the torso, beneath the ears. Stuff the heel section. Stitch the heel together.
-
11
Sew or glue two buttons to the sock above the heel section to create the monkey's face.
