1
Insert a toilet plunger so that it sets in the hole at the bottom of the toilet.
-
2
Thrust the plunger into the hole in quick short bursts. Keep up the thrusts for 30 seconds at a time. This will allow pressure to build up and possibly move the clog through the system.
-
-
3
Flush the toilet after each 30 seconds of thrusts to see whether or not the clog has been moved out.
-
4
Insert a toilet auger into the hole at the bottom of the toilet if a plunger did not release the clog.
-
5
Turn the handle of the auger, slowly releasing the coil further into the hole of the toilet. If resistance is encountered, work the coil with the handle of the auger by pushing it in and pulling it out while turning it. This will allow the cutter on the end of the coil to slice through the clog and break it up.
-
6
Flush the toilet to test whether or not the clog has been eliminated.
-
7
Call a professional plumber if neither of these methods yields results. Some clogs require a professional with a commercial snake.
