How to Print a Microsoft PowerPoint Slide Without the Background

Save

Adding a colorful background to a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation can liven up your slide show. However, printing that same presentation with a colorful background can needlessly waste printer ink and make the printouts difficult to read if the colors bleed together. You can change the settings in PowerPoint to keep the background color from printing.

PowerPoint 2007

  • Click the "Microsoft Office" button in the top left corner of PowerPoint 2007. A list of basic options appears.

  • Click "Print." This will open a print setup window. You can also press CTRL+P to open the print setup window.

  • Choose to print the slides in either grayscale or black and white in the "Color/grayscale" drop-down menu, located in the bottom left corner of the print setup window. Printing in black and white or grayscale omits the background color.

  • Change any other desired print settings, then click "OK" to print PowerPoint slides without the background.

PowerPoint 2003

  • Click the "File" menu in the top left corner of the PowerPoint 2003 window.
