How to Build an Awesome Resume
Some job seekers get multiple interviews while others sit by the phone anxiously waiting for a call. Building an awesome résumé that matches your skills to the specific positions for which you're applying can help land more interviews. When a hiring manager reads your résumé, you must persuade him that your skills are a good fit for the position. If you don't, your résumé will get moved to the bottom of the stack.

1
Include the necessary personal information. The first section of your résumé should include your full name, contact number, email and mailing address. Review this information several times to ensure it's correct. Incorrect contact information could prevent a hiring manager from contacting you about a job.
-
2
Create a strong objective statement. Writing an attention-grabbing objective statement will convince the reader to learn more about your skills. Brainstorm skills that match closely with the job description. Consider the skills most important to your potential manager. Weave these skills into the objective statement. According to Broward College, the objective statement shouldn't exceed three sentences in length.

3
Write a section that addresses professional experience. List your previous company's name, job title and dates employed. Under this header, describe your experience at each company you've worked for. Statements should be detailed and concrete. For example, you might explain that you managed a direct marketing campaign that received a 20 percent response rate (far above the industry average). Prioritize what you mention in the work experience section. List the most recent three or four employers.
-
4
Include education information. List degrees, training and certification that's relevant to the position. For example, Bachelor of Science in Marketing Communications, Oregon State University, 1998." If you have multiple degrees, list the most current first.
-
5
Highlight special skills. Brainstorm everything the employer would desire in a job candidate. Perhaps you're fluent in Spanish or have advanced web design skills. List these attributes in this section.

Tips & Warnings
Choose your words carefully when writing a résumé. Words such as "managed," "facilitated" and "organized" will capture the reader's attention. Avoid general statements that lack substance.
Don't forget to include a cover letter with your résumé. A cover letter will highlight your skills and entice the hiring manager to look at your résumé. Check out Purdue University for examples of good cover letters (see Resources).
