How to Submit a Website to MSN

If your website does not appear in the Bing search results, you may be missing out on a great deal of potential traffic. Formerly known as MSN Search and Live Search, the Bing search engine works similarly to competitors like Google, but runs on the Microsoft Network, allowing you to integrate your website with Windows Live for full Web statistics and analytics. If you submit your website using your Windows Live ID, you can unlock all of the benefits for free.

Instructions

    • 1

Sign up for a Windows Live ID if you do not already have one. This will allow you to submit your URL as a member, giving you the ability to track your website statistics after it receives approval. Visit the Windows Live website, click the "Sign Up" box and follow the prompts.

    • 2

      Visit the Bing webmaster site.

    • 3

Click the "Webmaster Tools" tools box in the middle of the page. If you are not currently signed into Windows Live, the next page will prompt you to do so, after which you will be redirected to the "Add a Site" page.

    • 4

Enter your URL in the "web address" box and enter the URL of your sitemap in the box just beneath, if applicable. Microsoft does not require a sitemap, but it does recommend it.

    • 5

Enter your e-mail address in the "Webmaster e-mail" box if you would like Microsoft to contact you regarding your site.

    • 6

Click the "Submit" button at the bottom of the page.

    • 7

Verify your website. Microsoft will provide you with two options for verifying that you own the website you have submitted. You can either download the provided XML file and add it to the main folder of your website, or you can copy the provided META tag and paste it into your HEAD section of your site, between the <HEAD> tag and the </HEAD> tag.

    • 8

Return to Bing Webmaster and you will see your site in the site list. Click the site to validate it. When Microsoft authenticates your site, it will appear on your Windows Live account with full statistics and information.
