How to Make Your Download Speed Very Fast
Download speed determines how fast you can download a file from the Internet to your computer. Your download speed is directly dependent on your Internet connection speed. If you use a dial-up connection, your download speed will be slower than broadband and DSL connections. Either way, you can boost your download speed by following a few simple techniques.

Download a download accelerator program. These programs significantly increases your download speed. "Free Download Manager," "Internet Download Manager" and "Download Accelerator" offer free downloads (see Resources).

Consider using a wired connection. Wireless connections face various frequency obstacles that may slow your download speed. If you are already using a wired connection, consider getting a shorter cable. Shorter cables will transmit data faster than longer ones.

Increase the speed of your modem. Click on "Start" and select "Control Panel." Click on "Modem and Phone Options." Click on the "Modems" tab on the top bar and single-click on the modem connected to your computer. Hit "Properties" and click on "Modem." Locate the drop down menu "Port Speed." Click on it and choose the maximum speed.

Download one file at a time. Downloading multiple files simultaneously will slow your overall download speed.

Consider downloading at a time, such as late night or early morning, when then are fewer users. Download speed is heavily dependent on the number of users downloading the same file. If possible, download at different times of the day to determine which is the best time to download a particular file.

Close unused programs. Even when unused, certain programs connect to the Internet to download updates in the background. This slows your overall download speed.
