How to Set a Mossberg Scope
Mossberg Firearms manufactures a complete line of hunting rifles, shotguns and handguns; however, it does not produce its own line of scopes. All of Mossberg's rifles and shotguns (and some of its hunting revolvers) are capable of utilizing scopes. Setting a scope entails aligning the scope reticles to intersect on the weapon's point of impact (where the bullet strikes the target). Scopes can be set by adjusting the elevation and windage crosshairs with the dials on the right side and the top of the scope.
Things You'll Need
- Scoped Mossberg rifle, shotgun or handgun
- Boresighter (optional)
- Live ammo (optional)
Instructions
-
-
1
Check that your weapon is unloaded.
-
2
Determine the weapon's point of impact by using a boresighter or by firing a bullet through a target and recording where the bullet hits (using a boresighter device is suggested).

3
Remove the screw caps from the scope adjustment dials and maneuver the crosshairs to intersect with the point of impact. The horizontal axis is adjusted by rotating the dial on the right side of the scope clockwise for left and counterclockwise for right. The vertical axis is adjusted by rotating the dial on the top of the scope clockwise for down and counterclockwise for up. When the crosshairs intersect on the point of impact, the scope is sighted in. Put the screw caps back on.
