How to Hook Up an XBox to a DVR

A digital video recorder (DVR) is generally used to record television programs so that they can be viewed at any time of day. Naturally, the DVR requires a connection to the television, usually via RCA cable. In the event that your television does not have enough RCA ports to allow connections from both your DVR and your Xbox, you can hook the Xbox up to a DVR in order to connect all of your RCA devices to your television.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect the Xbox end of the Xbox's RCA cable to the available port on the back of your Xbox.

    • 2

Connect the RCA ends of your Xbox RCA cable to the RCA input ports on your DVR. These ports are generally located on the front of the DVR, but they may also be located in the back, so look there if you see no ports on the front.

    • 3

Connect your DVR to your TV via the RCA cables that come with your DVR. Simply plug the RCA cables into the output ports on your DVR and the input ports on your television.

    • 4

Turn your Xbox, DVR, and television on. Press the "Video Input" or "Video Source" button on your DVR remote control to switch the DVR to video input mode. The signal from your Xbox can now be seen on your television.
