How to Share Contacts in Google

The list of contacts (including names, email address, phone numbers, and address information) you have on your Google account allows you to send your email and instant messages quickly. But sometimes you need to share those contacts with other applications. Google allows you to share your contact list with other programs in a few simple steps using the Google Contacts online tool.

Things You'll Need

  • Google account
  • Visit Google Contacts. Log into your Google account. Your contacts list will appear on the left-hand panel.

  • Click "Export" on the Google Contacts toolbar. You're given a list of options for exporting your contacts to another application.

  • Choose the contacts list that you want to share (or just select "Everyone" if you want to share them all). If you only want to share a few contacts, you have to create a new contact group by clicking the "New Group" icon on the Google Contacts main toolbar. Add the specific contact entries you want to share to that group, save the group with a new name, and then proceed with these instructions.

  • Select the export format for your lists next. You can transfer them as a Google CSV file, to share with another Google account, Outlook CSV format for Microsoft Outlook and similar contact management programs, or vCard format if you want to share this contact list with an Apple device or similar PDA device that accepts vCard data.

  • Click "Export" and choose the option to save the file to your computer. Open your other application and select the "Import" or similar option to finish sharing your Google contacts. If adding to another Google Account, log into that account and select "Import" on the Google Contacts toolbar.
