How to Program a Direct TV RC23 Remote

Save

DirecTV, a satellite television provider, manufactures the RC23 remote control. This is a universal remote control that can be programmed to control three additional devices in addition to your DirecTV satellite receiver. For example, if you want to control your television and satellite receiver with one remote control, you can do so by programming the DirecTV remote to your television.

  • Find the remote control code for the device you want to program. See "Resources" for a link to find the correct code.

  • Turn on the device you want to control with your DirecTV RC23 remote.

  • Slide the "Mode Switch," located on the top of the RC23 remote, to the device you want to program. For example, slide the switch to "TV" if you are trying to control your TV.

  • Press and hold down the "Mute" and "Select" buttons until the light at the top of the RC23 flashes twice. The "Mute" button is located directly above the "1" key on the number pad. The "Select" button is the yellow button in the middle of the RC23.

  • Enter the five-digit code you looked up previously. The light at the top of the remote will flash twice.

  • Aim your RC23 at the device you are attempting to control and press the "Power" button. The device should turn off.
