How to Customize My Own Cursor for Free

The small icon that represents where your mouse is pointing on your computer screen is called the "cursor." While certain vendors will try to sell you software that will change your cursor from its default image into a wide variety of other images, it is completely possible to do this for free using tools that already exist in Windows. You can customize your mouse cursor for free using the Windows Control Panel.

Instructions

    • 1

      Click "Start."

    • 2

      Click "Control Panel."

    • 3

      Click "Mouse."

    • 4

      Click the "Pointers" tab.

    • 5

Click on the cursor image that you'd like to customize. What you are now seeing on the screen is a representation of every cursor that you see while performing different tasks on your computer. Once you have selected a cursor to customize, click "Browse..." You can use a cursor image already present in Windows, or select a new image file from your hard drive. Once you're done, clicking "OK" will save your changes and make them permanent.
