How to Take a Window Motor Out of a 1987 Chevrolet

The power window motor in a 1987 Chevrolet controls the rolling up and down of the window. When the motor goes out, the window can no longer be rolled up or down, This typically happens on the driver's side of the vehicle, because of its frequent use. If you want to regain use of the window, you'll have to replace the motor; but first, you have to remove the malfanctioning motor. In this case, the project vehicle is a 1987 Chevrolet Silverado pickup, but the process is similar for other 1987 Chevrolets, as well.

Things You'll Need

• Phillips-head screwdriver
• Fabric tape
• 3/8-inch ratchet and socket set

Instructions

1. Open the door of the car. Remove the screws that secure the door panel to the door, using the Phillips-head screwdriver. Remove the door lock knob by turning it counter-clockwise. Pull the door panel off the door and unplug the wiring to the power window switch.

2. Roll or push the window up to its highest position. Tape the window to the upper door frame, using the fabric tape.

3. Unbolt the power window regulator from the door panel, using the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket. Unplug the wiring harness from the power window regulator. Slide the window regulator assembly towards the door latch until it pops off the glides. Tilt the regulator and pull it out of the large hole in the door.
