How to Clean an Automotive Paint Gun
An automotive paint gun is an essential component when you are painting your car. A properly cleaned and maintained paint gun will help to ensure that the paint job will look professional. If the paint gun is not properly cleaned, the paint will spray unevenly, or in the worst-case scenario not at all. So before your next job, dedicate some time to cleaning your gun.

1
Unscrew the reservoir from the paint gun and pour any unused paint into a clean storage container. Pour paint thinner into the reservoir and screw it back onto the paint gun.
-
2
Shake the paint gun vigorously and then unscrew the reservoir and pour the paint thinner out. Add new paint thinner and screw the reservoir back on.
-
-
3
Turn the air valve on the side of the gun counterclockwise to increase the rate of air delivery. Spray air through the paint gun using an air hose until all of the paint thinner comes out.
-
4
Remove the paint gun's reservoir. Put a rag over the end cap and pull the gun's trigger. This will remove any excess thinner that is left in the suction tube.
-
5
Remove the air cap by unscrewing the locking ring. Use a dry cloth and clean the fluid tip.
-
6
Brush the inside of all of the paint gun's threads, the fluid tip and the sealing gasket with a soft vinyl brush. Brush these areas carefully because damaging these parts will affect the spray pattern of the gun.
-
7
Re-attach the air cap to the paint gun and fill the reservoir with paint thinner. Spray the gun. Remove the reservoir after all of the thinner is expelled. Wipe the inside and outside of the reservoir with a cloth and thinner and allow it to dry.
