How to Create Your Own Sexy Toga Party Costume
The toga, a loosely draped piece of clothing worn in ancient Rome, was originally worn by both sexes, but eventually came to be worn only by men. At modern toga parties, a popular type of party (especially for college students), the toga is worn by both sexes. Costume stores usually carry a wide variety of toga costumes, from the more historically accurate to the sexy. Most college students, however, opt to make their own toga costume with a bed sheet or plain piece of fabric. You can make your own sexy toga costume--one that is more form-fitting than the typically loosely draped bed sheet--with a plain strip of fabric, some inexpensive leafy garland, and a few accessories.
Things You'll Need
- Measuring tape
- Lightweight fabric such as cotton or muslin
- Scissors
- Green leafy garland
- Florist tape
- Gold jewelry
- Gladiator sandals

Cut a piece of fabric as wide as you want your toga to be long. Determine the length of the fabric you will need by measuring your hips at their widest point and multiplying that number by six to get the total length of fabric needed in inches.

Place one end of the fabric underneath your right arm with about 2 inches of the fabric reaching around toward your back.

Wrap the fabric around your body twice, starting across the front of your body from right to left.

Twist the remaining length of the fabric to create a sort of rope.

Wrap the twisted part of the fabric around your waist twice.

Bring the twisted fabric up and around your neck starting on the left side around the back to the right side to create a halter-type style.

Push the twisted fabric underneath itself where it came across your chest before wrapping about your neck.

Bring the twisted fabric back up and push it down through the loop you just created to knot the fabric in the center of your chest.

Knot the twisted fabric around itself where you wrapped it around your waist. Trim any excess fabric.

Twist together the leafy garland to form a laurel wreath crown. Form the garland into loops that are the right size to sit comfortably on your head. Once you determine the correct size loop, hold the layers of the garland together with florist tape wrapped around the vine part of the garland in a few different locations.

Embellish the outfit with gold jewelry such as arm cuffs, toe rings, rings and dangling earrings.

Put on gladiator style sandals that wrap around your calves and tie just below the knee.

Tips & Warnings
Opt for a color of fabric other than white to make your toga stand out from the crowd. Lightweight cotton fabrics come in a wide variety of colors and prints.
