How to Install a Windows XP Sound Driver
In order for your Windows XP computer to recognize your sound card, you need to install the appropriate driver. While the sound driver typically comes pre-installed on most computers, installing a new sound card could require a new driver. Then again, accidents happen, and you might need to reinstall the sound driver if you deleted or uninstalled the original driver for your sound card by mistake. Fortunately installing a Windows XP sound driver is easy just so long as you already have the appropriate driver file or an Internet connection.

Tips & Warnings
Since Microsoft doesn't manufacture every sound card in every Windows XP computer, you may have to visit the sound card's manufacturer website in order to download the driver. Most companies offer drivers for download directly from their site. If one's unavailable, you may need to contact the manufacturer in order to get one.
