How to Make a Baby Smurf Costume

How to Make a Baby Smurf Costume thumbnail
Dressing all in white is one step in creating a Baby Smurf costume.

Baby Smurf was the youngest member of the Smurf clan, the subject of a popular 1980's cartoon. Smurfs make excellent Halloween or 80's-themed party costumes. The Family Education website recommends this simple project for all ages. Parents or older children with sewing skills may be helpful for sewing the iconic Smurf hat and applying face make-up.

Instructions

    • 1

Trace the shape of a beanie hat on to drawing paper to create a template for a Smurf hat. Extend the shape at the top of the hat into a lopsided loop that resembles a wave or an eggplant. Trace the outer lines of the template with marker and cut out the template. If you are artistic, you can draw the templates by hand.

    • 2

Pin the paper template to the white felt and cut out the shape. Repeat this process to create the other side of the hat.

    • 3

Place the two sides of the white felt together so that the shapes align. Sew the edges together, leaving the bottom edge open. Be sure the hat fits properly on the head.

    • 4

Dress in a white shirt, pants, socks and shoes. Tuck the shirt into the pants to create a seamless look. Baby Smurf wears a one-piece white outfit.

    • 5

Apply blue face make up to the face, hands and neck with a make-up sponge. Complete the look by carrying a rattle.

Tips & Warnings

  • For hats that feel slightly too small, secure the hat to the head with bobby pins.
