How to Assemble Metal Bed Frames With Bottoms
Most metal bed frames come without bottoms, rather using rails to mount just the edges of the mattress. Assembling a metal bed frame that does have a full mattress bottom is a similar process, but a little more challenging since the mattress platform is bulkier and harder to work with than simple bed rails. For most people, the hardest part is keeping the end pieces upright while mounting the bottom panel. This is easy with a partner, but if working alone there's a way to make it go much more smoothly. Assemble the end pieces according to the instructions in your manual, if necessary. The majority of bed frames come with fully assembled end pieces.

Lean one end piece against a wall, with enough room for you to work on either side.

Lay the bottom panel on the ground, approximately where it will be once attached to the end piece leaning against the wall.

Set the other end piece up at the foot of the bottom panel. Hold it upright with one hand as you set the nearest corner of the bottom panel in position on the end piece. Loosely insert and screw in place any fastening hardware.

Move to the other side of the same end piece. Hold it upright with one hand as you attach that corner of the bottom panel, just as you did with the first.

Move to the end piece leaning against the wall. Mount the head end of the bottom panel. Since the other end piece is now stable, you should be able to assemble the entire piece without having to do it one corner at a time.

Tighten down all the fastening hardware, using your wrench, screwdriver and/or hex wrench as necessary. Note that not all frames require all three tools.

Move the bed frame into position in the bedroom where it will live, then place the mattress.
