Instructions

    • 1

Estimate the cord yardage needed to make the plant hanger. Multiply the length of the hanger by 4 and then double that. If the finished length is one yard (25 inches), the calculation looks like this: 1 x 4 = 4; 4 x 2 = 8.

    • 2

Cut eight yarn cords in the length estimated in step 1.

    • 3

Cut another 1-yard cord and wrap it all the way around a 2-inch metal ring. Finish the wring by tying it in a square knot.

    • 4

Fold eight yarn cords in half over the metal loop. The square knot from step 2 is in the center of the eight cords. Sixteen strings are now hanging down. Separate the cords into four equal groups and make 10(11) crown knots. Don't include the strings from wrapping the ring in these knots. Cut any of those strings that hang down after you finish tying the crown knots.

    • 5

Divide the cords in groups of four. Use the center two cords in each group as a filler cords. Tie 10 half knots in each of the four groups.

    • 6

Skip down 1.5 inches and tie 6 square knots. Do this in each of the four groups. Use the same two center strings as filler cords.

    • 7

Move down another 1.5 inches and tie 3 square knot buttons in each string group.

    • 8

Skip down another 1.5 inches inches and tie 10 half knots in each of the string groups. Continue to use the same filler cords.

    • 9

Skip down another 1.5 inches and make 6 square knots in each of the string groups.

    • 10

To make a basket, skip four inches and tie a row of square knots, skip 3 inches and tie another row of alternating square knots. Do this in each of the string groups.
Find the two longest cords. Skip 3 inches and tie 3 square knots around the rest of the cords. Trim the tail to whatever length you like.
