How to Unclog a Drain with Vinegar and Baking Soda
Drains commonly become clogged in bathroom and kitchen areas when dirt, soap scum, food residue and other buildup accumulates in the drain, eventually clogging the drain path and preventing the drain from functioning as it should. When you begin to notice your drain running slowly, don't buy an expensive, chemically based commercial drain cleaner. Instead, make your own all-natural drain cleaner by combining vinegar and baking soda. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
-
-
1
Pour half a gallon of boiling water down the drain to soften the residue that is causing the clog.
-
2
Sprinkle half a cup of baking soda into the drain.
-
-
3
Pour half a cup of vinegar down the drain on top of the baking soda.
-
4
Cover the drain immediately. The vinegar and baking soda will foam slightly when they combine, signaling the natural chemical reaction that will break up whatever is clogging the drain.
-
5
Let the baking soda and vinegar sit in the drain for at least two hours (overnight is even better).
-
6
Pour half a gallon of boiling water down the drain after the time has elapsed. This will wash away the vinegar and the baking soda residue as well as the elements that have been broken apart during the unclogging process.
