How Do I Change Attachments Opening in Word Pad to Word?

When you double-click a file to open it, it automatically opens based on the default program set to open that type of file. For example, you may have text files or other documents set up to open in Microsoft WordPad, which is a simple text editor installed on all Windows computers. However, you may want to open those files with Microsoft Word instead. You'll need to change the default program set to open the files that are opening in WordPad.

  • Click the "Start" menu in the lower-left corner of Windows. Then select "Default Programs."

  • Click on the option labeled "Associate a file type or protocol with a program."

  • Select the file type you want to change from the listed file types. For example, if you want text files (.txt) to open in Microsoft Word instead of WordPad, choose ".txt."

  • Click the "Change Program" button in the upper-right corner of the window.

  • Select "Microsoft Word" from the list of programs. If Microsoft Word doesn't appear in the list, click the "Browse" button in the lower-right corner and select Microsoft Word from your computer.

  • Click the "OK" button and then "Close." The next time you open that particular file type, it will open it in Microsoft Word. Repeat this process for any other file type you want to open in Word.
