Retractable Awning Instructions
A retractable awning can be placed over a patio or deck to provide shade during warm summer days. It can also protect you from sudden spring showers. When properly used and maintained, it can provide years of enjoyment. There are two types of retractable awnings---manual and electric. Both types are simple to use and can be opened and closed by one person in a matter of minutes with minimal effort. Does this Spark an idea?

Motorized Awnings

Plug the electrical cord into an available outlet. Insert fresh batteries in the remote control included with the motorized retractable awning.

Press the "Open" button on the remote control to open the awning. Some remote controls have arrow buttons. Press the top arrow to open the awning.

Press the "Close" button on the remote control to close the awning.
Manual Awnings

Place the hook on the crank handle into the gear loop. This metal loop is on the end of the awning beneath the roller tube.

Turn the crank handle clockwise to extend the awning. Continue turning the crank handle until the arms are locked in the correct position.

Turn the crank handle counterclockwise to close the awning.
Adjusting Pitch

Extend the awning less than ¼ of the way out, using the crank handle.

Place the hook of the crank handle into the pitch adjustment loop. The pitch adjustment loop is on the shoulder of the awning behind the roller tube.

Lower the pitch of the awning by turning the crank handle clockwise. Raise the pitch of the awning by turning the crank handle counterclockwise. Repeat on the opposite end of the awning to raise or lower the other arm.

Adjust the pitch of the awning when it is fully extended by having a second person hold the end of the awning to relieve the pressure on the flex pitch bolt.

Tips & Warnings
The awning arms must be at the same pitch before opening or closing to avoid damage.
Opening and closing the awning when the arms are not at the same pitch can cause permanent damage.
Overextending the awning can cause the awning to sag or become misaligned.
