How to Set Up Online Radio & Broadcasting Over the Internet Using Winamp
Winamp is one of the most resourceful media players on the market. Use it for podcasting, listening to music and reading RSS feeds. It can even be used to stream music over the Internet, which allows you to broadcast your own online radio station to anyone on the Internet. The process of setting up online radio and broadcasting isn't for the novice, but it can be done with some care and time.

1
Register with an online streaming host. You can find a list of different hosts at Radio Toolbox (see Resources). Each of the hosts on this list offers a special Shoutcast hosting program. Sign up for the Shoutcast hosting program and you will then be given your own "Output Configuration" settings. Record these settings for later use.
-
2
Download the Winamp application and the Shoutcast Radio DSP plug-in (see References). The most recent version of Winamp is on the Winamp website. The Shoutcast Radio DSP plug-in can be downloaded at the Shoutcast website.
-
-
3
Open and install the DSP plug-in by following the installation wizard that follows opening the plug-in.
-
4
Open Winamp and access the "Preferences" menu.
-
5
From the "Preferences" menu, select "DSP/Effect." The DSP plug-in should appear in the right side of the Preferences menu. Select the DSP plug-in and configure the plug-in with the output settings that were given to you when you registered with the online streaming host.
-
6
Leave the DSP plug-in highlighted, and close the Preferences menu.
-
7
Open an audio file on your computer. Once opened, press "Play," and the music being played in your Winamp application will now stream to your online streaming host, so that anyone on the Internet can listen to your stream from the Shoutcast streaming directory, which can be found in your Winamp player or on the homepage of Shoutcast.
