How to Repair Laminate Floor Scuffs

Remove scuff marks from laminate flooring with baking soda.

A long-lasting and resilient flooring, laminate stands up to the worst abuse. Laminate comes in a variety of styles and colors and is simple to install. As durable as laminate is, it is not immune from scuff marks from shoes or boots. Scuff marks appear as black streaks on laminate flooring. Remove scuff marks with simple tools and techniques.

Things You'll Need

• Pencil eraser
• Broom
• Spray lubricant
• Rags
• Cloths
• Baking soda
• White vinegar
• Bowl
• Paper towels
• White-soled tennis shoe

Instructions

1. Rub a pencil eraser over the scuff mark. Pencil erasers lift the scuff mark from the floor. Sweep up residue left from the eraser, using a broom.

2. Apply spray lubricant to a rag and dab at the scuff mark. The lubricant loosens the scuff mark, allowing you to remove it with the rag. Wipe the floor clean with a damp rag and dry with a clean cloth.

3. Prepare a paste with baking soda and two or three drops of water. Apply the paste to the scuff mark. With a damp rag, gently rub paste over the scuff mark. Wipe the loosened scuff mark from the laminate flooring with the damp rag.

4. Mix one part water and one part vinegar in a bowl. Dab a paper towel into the mixture and wipe onto the laminate floor. The vinegar mixture removes residue left from the baking soda. Wipe dry with a clean cloth.

5. Rub the white sole of an old tennis shoe onto the scuff mark. Place your hand in the shoe and rub the sole against the scuff mark. The rubber from the tennis shoe lifts the scuff mark from the laminate floor.

Tips & Warnings

• Use only clear or light-colored pencil erasers on laminate flooring. Avoid using pink erasers.

• Always clean water from laminate to avoid damaging the flooring.
