Instructions

    • 1

Find an inexpensive camera digital camera that you would like to use for night vision. The CCD (charged couple device, or the thing that makes the pictures) in all digital cameras are sensitive to the infrared spectrum of light. This includes Web cams. However, once you take the camera apart and remove the infrared filter, the camera will no longer be able to take regular photos.

    • 2

Unscrew the casing of the camera and open it up slowly. Making sure not to damage the electronics. If you are using a webcam, it will probably not have any screws and you will need to pry it apart using a flat edge like a screwdriver's.

    • 3

Find out where the CCD sensor is by using your camera's manual. This is where the filter is located that you will need to remove.

    • 4

Remove the infrared filter. This is just a red-colored piece of glass. When removing it, be careful not to damage the CCD sensor.

    • 5

Replace the screws in your camera and assemble it. If you are using a webcam, glue it or duct-tape it back together.

    • 6

Take photos just as you normally would. You can take pictures in what your eyes perceive to be pitch black, but will still get an image with the infrared. Bear in mind that the colors will be different and things will be a blurry and out-of-focus. However the camera will pick up things that your naked eye cannot see in the dark.
