A cover letter can help you obtain employment as an accountant.

Becoming an accountant can be a very rewarding and satisfying career choice. Accountants will most likely always be in need because many people don't have the knowledge or time to keep track of their own expenses and income or to complete their own taxes. Small business owners and entrepreneurs, especially, require the services of a professional accountant. Before you can gain employment with an accounting firm, you need to write a cover letter.

Instructions

    • 1

Type the heading for your letter. The heading should contain your name and contact information. Include your address, phone number and email.

    • 2

Type the date you plan to send the cover letter below your heading.

    • 3

Add the name of the hiring manager or owner of the accounting firm below the date. Include her job title, the name of the firm and the address.

    • 4

Skip a line and type a professional greeting, such as "Dear Ms. Jones." Be sure to address the recipient by name.

    • 5

Start your first paragraph below the greeting. In this paragraph, express your interest in the open position for an accountant in the firm, and state how you heard of the position. You can also refer to your resume if you're enclosing one.

    • 6

Begin the second paragraph by stating how many years you've working as an accountant, and list some of your prominent qualifications. Try to make your qualifications specific to the needs of the accounting firm. For example, if the firm specializes in working with small business owners and freelancers, be sure to state that you've had experience working with these types of clients. List your professional characteristics related to accounting, such as reliable, organized, accurate and efficient, in the second paragraph, as well.

    • 7

Thank the recipient for taking the time to read through your resume and for considering you for the accountant position in the third and final paragraph. Express your interest in coming in for an interview, and state your availability.

    • 8

Type a professional closing, such as "Sincerely," below the third paragraph. Skip four lines below that, and type your name. After you print the letter, you'll sign your name in that space.
