The Scanner Isn't Working

Make sure the scanner is turned on.

Make sure the transportation lock is unlocked.

Make sure the scanner is properly connected to the computer.

Turn the unit off and back on again.

Look for an error message. If you are using XP Home Edition, XP Professional or 2000 Professional and you see a message that reads: "Cannot properly communicate with the scanner," make sure the scanner is on, properly connected and properly set up to scan. If using an SCSI connection, restart your computer. You will need to install a patch. Click on "My Computer", select "EPSON" then select "Open" from the file menu. Open the "Patch" folder and double-click "esuf41e.exe" to install the patch. Once it has installed, remove the USB cable from your computer then reconnect it to the same port.

Uninstall and reinstall the scanner's software.
Problems with Scanned Images

Ensure the side of the document you wish to scan is face down on the document table.

Make sure the scanner is on a flat, stable surface.

Make sure the document is flat on the document table.

Make sure the sides of the document are aligned with the scales at the top and side of the document table.

Ensure your scanner settings are correct. Settings such as "brightness," "color control" and "target size" will all affect the scanned image. Refer to the scanner's manual for advice on settings.
Film or Document Jam

Press the "Eject" button to remove any jammed film from the Auto Film Loader.

Open the scanner cover.

Turn the feed knob in the direction of the arrow until the end of the film is free. Gently pull out the film.

Remove any paper or document jams by gently pulling at the paper.

Tips & Warnings
Do not pull too hard when trying to remove a paper jam as this may just tear the document.
If using a Mac, install the scanner software in a Mac OS X environment rather than Classic mode.
Do not attempt to access the electronics or circuitry of the scanner.
