Microsoft SYNC, an in-car connectivity system found in a Ford Fusion, literally synchronizes with your Bluetooth-enabled phone and MP3 player. While all of the different features available to you might seem intimidating, learn a few basic commands, and you can take advantage of all SYNC has to offer. The most popular features, and the ones you will likely use the most, are placing and receiving phone calls, text messaging and playing music from your MP3 player. The following commands will help to get you started.

  1. Placing and Receiving Phone Calls

    • 1

      Turn the vehicle ignition and radio on, and place the vehicle in "Park." Put your phone in Bluetooth discovery mode.

      Press the "Phone" button to access the "Phone Menu." The radio display panel will show "No Phone." Press "OK" so that "Add Devices" appears on the display panel.

      Press "OK" to enter the "Add Devices" menu. Press "OK" again when "Find Sync" appears. The radio display panel will show a six digit PIN, which you will enter into your phone when prompted. The display panel will show "Connected" when complete.

      Press the "Voice" button on the steering wheel. You will hear a tone and "Listening" will appear on the display panel. Say "Phone" to enter hands-free phone mode.

      Say "Call" followed by the name of the phone book entry or telephone number you want to dial. The radio will display the selected information.

      Say "Dial" to place the call. Press and hold the "Phone" button to end the call.

      Press the "Phone" button to answer an incoming call, or press and hold the "Phone" button to reject the call.

      Press "Menu" at any time to enter the call menu. Press the "Seek" buttons to scroll through the menu of various call options to place a call on hold, join two phone calls or access your phone book.

    Reading and Sending Text Messages

      Press the "Phone" button and scroll so that "Text Message" appears on the display panel. Press "OK" and "Inbox XX" will display.

      Press "OK" again or say "Read Message" and Sync will read your message aloud. Press the "Seek" buttons to choose "Reply to Message" and press "OK."

      Scroll through the list of predefined messages and press "OK" to choose your response. Press "OK" again to confirm when the display panel shows "Send Message?"

      Press the "Seek" buttons to scroll through the text message menu and access the various text messaging features.

    Playing Music via MP3 Player

      Turn your MP3 player on and plug it into the USB port in your car.

      Press the "Voice" button to begin indexing your media files. Say "USB" to access your MP3 player using voice commands when you hear the tone.

      Say "Play All" to begin playing all songs on your MP3 player. Say "Play Artist <name>" or "Play Track <name>" to play a particular artist or track.

      Say "What's Playing" to display the song artist and title currently playing. Say "Play Next Track" to skip to the next song, or say "Shuffle" to shuffle the order of the songs playing.

      Press the "Seek" buttons to scroll through the media menu and access the various media features.

Tips & Warnings

  • Speak commands clearly and say names exactly as listed in your phone book or MP3 player.

  • Press the "Voice" button and say "Help" at any time for a list of options available.

  • You cannot perform SYNC functions at speeds greater than 3 mph.
