Over time, the constant vibration of a washing machine often causes the washer to come out of balance. Maytag washers have self-balancing feet on the rear that make balancing a straightforward process. After making adjustments on the front legs, simply release the rear legs by lifting the rear of the washer off the floor. This enables the rear legs to automatically adjust to the front when you lower the washer back down.

Step 3

Turn each leg clockwise until the top of the base is 1 inch from the bottom of the securing nut. Hold the nut with the adjustable wrench while turning the legs. Release the retaining nut and turn the legs clockwise until the nuts touch the bottom of the washer. Lift the front of the Maytag washer up and pull the board out. Lower the washer back onto the floor.

Step 4

Grasp the washer from the middle of the control console and tilt the washer toward you until the rear of the washer is 6 inches off the floor. Listen for the rear leveling legs to click. Gently lower the washer back to the floor.

Place a 4-foot level across the front top of the washer. Adjust the front legs if necessary until the front is in balance. Loosen the retaining nut with the adjustable wrench and turn the feet as necessary until the front balances. Tighten the nut with the adjustable wrench.
