How Do I Become a Newspaper Delivery Person?

Save

If you enjoy waking up at the crack of dawn and would like to make extra money each week, you might want to consider becoming a delivery person for your local newspaper. There are generally two different types of newspaper delivery persons: those who deliver papers door to door and those that deliver papers to the paper boxes and machines that you see along street corners and outside of restaurants.

Things You'll Need

  • Valid Driver's License
  • Vehicle
  • Acquire a reliable vehicle and a driver's license. Newspapers, with rare exception, require their delivery persons to own a vehicle and/or have a valid driver's license. Some companies will have their own delivery vans for you to use. The days of 10-year-old children delivering papers from bicycles are virtually over.

  • Apply for a job as a newspaper delivery person at your local newspaper. You can bring a resume and a copy of your driver's history as you would like, but typically, you'll just fill out a paper application and leave it with the receptionist. Depending on the newspaper's need for delivery personnel, you may receive a phone call for an interview within a few days or weeks. If the newspaper does not have any openings, they will keep your application on file for a few months and call you if an opening becomes available.

  • Check your newspaper and those from surrounding towns and communities if you are unable to secure a position with your local newspaper. Check online job boards such as Careerbuilder, Monster, Craigslist and Yahoo Jobs for newspaper delivery job in your area.
