How to Clean the Start Menu

The Start menu in Windows is the button in the lower left-hand corner of the screen. This menu contains a list of applications installed on your computer, as well as folders and system preference programs like the Control Panel. The menu is designed to give the user easy access to regularly visited programs like the Internet. However, there may be some program icons on the Start menu that you wish to remove to give the menu a "clean" appearance.

Instructions

    • 1

Click on the "Start" button to open the Start menu. Start buttons on newer versions of Windows have a Windows icon only, while older versions have the word "Start."

    • 2

Right-click on the program icon within the Start menu you wish to remove.

    • 3

Select "Remove from this List." The icon will disappear.

    • 4

Navigate to "All Programs" under the Start menu.

    • 5

Right-click on the programs you wish to remove from the Start menu. Select "Delete."

Tips & Warnings

  • Deleting programs in the Start menu will not uninstall them. To uninstall programs, go to "Start" > "Control Panel" > "Add or Remove Programs." Select the program you wish to uninstall and hit "Uninstall."
