How to Split an ISO File Into a CD/R
If you have an ISO file that you ripped from a DVD stored on your computer and you want to create a copy, you don't necessarily need to burn the ISO on another DVD. Though ISO files are too big to be stored on a single CD/R, they can be burned to CD/R by converting the files to the proper file format for VCD, or video CD. Once the ISO file is in the proper video format, the file can be split during the burning process.
Instructions
-
Convert the ISO to VOBs
-
1
Download either WinZIP or WinRAR to your computer (see "Resources"). Install the program onto your system by going to the "Downloads" folder, double-clicking the program icon and following the instructions listed on the screens.
-
2
Open the folder on your hard drive that contains the ISO file that you want to split and burn to CD/R. To navigate to the folder, go to the "Start" menu, click on "My Computer" or "Computer," and select the drive that the folder is on.
-
-
3
Right-click the ISO file and choose the "Extract" option that appears. The individual video files, or VOBs, that are stored in the ISO file are pulled from the file and saved in the folder.
Convert the VOBs to MPG
-
4
Go to YouConvertIt or Zamzar in your Internet browser (see "Resources"). Both sites provide systems that can convert the VOB files you extracted from the ISO.
-
5
Click the "Browse" button in the converter and go to the folder that contains the VOB files in the window that comes up. Double-click the largest file, or highlight the file and click "Open" to add it to the converter. The largest file should be the main movie file.
-
6
Choose "MPG" or "MPEG" as the output format for the conversion. MPEG is the standard format used for burning video to CD/R.
-
7
Enter your email address in the "Email" box and click "OK." The VOB file is converted to MPEG, and the MPEG file is sent to your email address.
-
8
Open your email. Click the download links provided for the MPEG file, choose "Save As" and choose a folder and a name for the file.
Burn the MPG to CD/R
-
9
Launch your usual DVD-writing program. Most programs, like Roxio and CyberLink PowerDVD, can burn VCDs.
-
10
Choose the "VCD" option from the main menu of the DVD-writing program. Insert a blank CD/R into the computer's CD or DVD drive.
-
11
Load the MPEG file by clicking the "Add Files" or "Import Video" button, finding the file in the window that appears and double-clicking the file name.
-
12
Go to the last screen of the DVD-writing program and click the "Burn" button. When the first CD/R runs out of space, the program prompts you to remove the disc and insert a blank CD/R.
