How to Set Up a Linksys Five Port Switch on a Comcast Router

A swtich allows you to connect multiple users to a single Internet connection.

A Linksys Five port switch allows you to connect up to five computers or network devices together. The computers can network with each other, but they cannot connect to the Internet unless the switch is connected to a router. The switch does not have the necessary hardware to be able to properly route the Internet to each computer, but a router does. Thus, if you connect the router to the switch, it can provide both the network signal and the method for routing that signal to each of the five computers connected to the switch.

Things You'll Need

• Ethernet cables

Instructions

1. Connect an Ethernet cable to one of the five LAN ports on the Linksys Switch.

2. Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to a computer or network device.

3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 for up to four other computers or network devices.

4. Connect an Ethernet cable to the uplink port on the switch.

5. Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to one of the four LAN ports on the Comcast Router.

6. Turn the router and switch on.
