Scrapbook albums (string-tied bind)

Scrapbooking is a fun and fast-growing hobby for many people of all ages. There are many types of scrapbooks available to choose from. Post-bound albums use metal posts to attach the pages to the album. Hinge scrapbook albums have a plastic strap with a spacer and a metal hinge to attach the pages to it. A string-tied scrapbook contains two holes and a string threaded through it, with the string tied at the front cover of the album. There are also three-ring-binder-type albums. Each type of album has a certain way that the pages should be attached to them.

Open the scrapbook album and remove the binding cover. Pull and unthread the back straps from the spacers. The spacers are the two long white plastic strips that keep the pages in place while the album is closed.

    • 6

Remove the back cover with the spacers facing the front.

    • 7

Add pages by threading the plastic strap through the top and bottom of the metal page holders where the two long thin holes are. Add the pages from the back of the album, as the straps are shorter in the front to hold the album together.

    • 8

Add the spacer back to the thread of the straps with the holders on the right. Place the back cover on the strap with the spacers facing up.

    • 9

Thread the straps through the spacers on the album, going down then up.

    • 10

Pull the straps semi-tight and close the back of the album. Once closed tighten the straps. Slip the binding cover in at this point, if one is available.

Tips & Warnings

  • Choose a type of album that best suits your scrapbooking needs. They all vary from easy to moderate.

  • If you need to add additional pages to a post-bound album to make it larger, you can add extenders to the posts. Extenders usually come with the paper refills.

  • The hinge album is expendable and pages can be added anywhere, but the album has to be taken apart to be moved around. It cannot accept unlimited refills since the pages have to be held together with the strap.

  • Three-ring binder type scrapbook albums are a faster alternative if you are constantly wanting to add scrapbook pages to your album. This album is not expandable, so if you have a lot of pages, make sure to use a big album.
